-30th + 31st July - "Pearson gains championship victory"
Driving his seven-year-old
Tatuus, Pearson made the most of the damp conditions on Saturday
to win the opening race and beat those in newer FR2000 machinery
behind him.
Pearson was helped
because front-row starters Matt Russell and Nick Wilcox were
ordered to start from the pitlane on a restart. From then on
it was academic. All he had to do was keep it on the Tarmac.
Race organisers
let the drivers change to wet tyres. Fine you'd think, but Russell
and Wilcox didn't make the grid in time. The both went into
pits, rather than back on to the grid leaving Pearson who was
third prior to the stoppage, effectively starting on pole.
Pearson managed
to comfortably keep a good distance between himself and the
FR2000 cars finishing almost 15 seconds above second place Wilcox.
Pearson carried
his good form over into Sunday's race as well. Although the
FR2000 dominated the dry race from start to finish. Pearson
still finished first in his class and secured the Club Championship
title with double headers at Snetterton and Outon Park still
to run.
"It's great
to win the title so early but to also win the first race against
all the newer FR2000 cars was just the icing on the cake,"
said Pearson.
