Oulton - 24th September - "BARC Formula Renaul Season comes to an end"

The 12 round BARC Formula Renault season is now over for 2005. Ian Pearson - 25 from Didcot, Oxfordshire - won the championship back in August but the final results show him 88 points clear of his nearest rival in 2nd place.

Ian had a fantastic year winning 11 consecutive rounds and only dropping 1 point for pole position, due to mechanical problems, during a qualifying session at Pembrey in Wales.

The season came to an end for Pearson on Saturday at Oulton Park. It was a frustrating weekend for the 25 year old. After selling his championship-winning car to help fund next year's season, he made the brave decision to drive a car he had built but never driven before. After a fraught day of testing plagued with mechanical failures, Ian looked to be back on track. After only 8 laps in the car he looked to be 2 seconds faster than any of his rivals out on the track. However, it was not to be, a broken clutch meant that he was unable to qualify.

Starting from the back of the grid was always going to be a challenge, in a slightly ambitious move to take first position in class on the opening lap, Ian was turned in upon which lead to nose damage to the car and the first non-finish of the year.

Ian has taken this all in his stride and cannot wait to get back into a car for the winter series at Brands Hatch in November. This will either be in the Tatuus RC98 BARC Club Class car or hopefull, in a more powerful higher-class FR2000, dependant upon sponsorship and available budget.

Either way, Ian has had a fantastic year and is proud of his achievement. He is a talented driver and with the right backing, could really put himself in the spot light.
