Success at Brands!
A successful weekend at brands hatch saw Ian tie up BARC Formula Renault club Class for the third successive year. After a trying test day on the Saturday with a broken gearbox & floor Ian wasted no time in qualify in getting down to business & setting pole position for the club & a commendable 14th overall but only 0.9 sec off the overall pole position.
For the race Ian made an excellent start & was looking to move up a place when he was slowed by an FR2000 class car & ended up losing a place, Ian made up for this by passing two cars on the second lap. Ian settled down into a battle with a gaggle of FR2000 class cars & made it up to 12th position overall before he was passed by a usually front running FR2000 that had started at the back of the grid. Ian finished the race in 13th position overall but winning the club class by 18 seconds, making Ian the club class champion for 2007 with three rounds remaining.
Bank holiday Mondays qualifying session went equally well for Ian qualifying 14th overall & on pole for the club class with a 1 second advantage over his nearest rival.
Ian made a reasonable start & held position over the opening laps but he was stuck in a bunch of squabbling FR2000 class cars. Ian was actually trying to overtake & move up to 12th into paddock hill bend when he ran wide & suffered a 360 degree 100 mph spin. Ian managed to keep the car going & bought it back from the grass briefly losing the lead of the club, he would re-address this two corners later. Ian re-passed one more car on his way to his second class victory of the weekend & 15th position overall. Ian commented “its been a tough weekend & to come away with a maximum & the 2007 title is brilliant”.
