Changeable Weather at Oulton Park

Changeable weather seemed to be the theme of the whole weekend for the fourth round of the BARC Formula Renault championship and for the second round in a row Ian gained limited useful mileage on the Friday test session.

On a drying track in qualifying Ian bided his time until late on in the session setting three quick laps at the very end claiming pole position for the class with a 1.8 second margin & a buffer of seven FR2000 class cars in between himself and his nearest rival.

On a now completely dry track Ian made a good start and made up a place on the first lap capitalising on the mistakes of other drivers settling into thirteenth overall but still first in the class. By the end of lap two Ian had comfortable buffer of four FR2000 class cars between himself & his nearest class rival but Ian was embroiled in a fierce five car train, Ian commented “it was pretty hectic, a lot of cars were banging wheels & running of the road, it really was a matter of staying out of trouble”.

All these incidents would see Ian move up to 10th overall & all over the back of a Russell Racing FR2000 car, but despite several attempts Ian could not quite make a pass & would finish the race tenth overall, but with another class win, pole position & fastest lap. Ian commented. “it was very annoying, the places where I was quicker and could make a pass were always under yellow flag’s so I couldn’t make a move. It was a very messy race and just wanted to stay out of trouble & get the points, hopefully at Silverstone we can get some better testing mileage as I’m still not happy with car”.

The next round is at Silverstone on 21st & 22nd July
