Suspension collapse for Pearson
The penultimate round of the BARC Formula Renault Championship was held at the very fast Thruxton circuit, “Its an excellent circuit, there is no other track quite like it, it’s a real leveller with the limited testing as well” commented Ian. Ian was on fine form in qualifying securing a place in the top ten overall & fastest in class by a staggering 3 seconds.
Ian made a good start but was boxed in into the first corner & lost several places, Ian would slip further down the field on the next lap, “the FR2000’s are very hard to follow round here, they really steal all your downforce if you get too close to them, they can follow me fine so I’m a bit like a sitting duck really” commented Ian.
Ian now running in 15th overall set some blistering laps, breaking the lap record twice while closing up to a pack of FR2000 class cars. Ian would get up to 13th overall by lap 6 and was having a few tries to pass the FR2000 class cars in front as they were really holding him up. On lap 11 with a 33 second lead in class Ian’s suspension collapsed at over 130 mph sending him into a wild spin that ended in retirement for the second time this season, fortunately Ian regained control of his ailing car preventing any further damage.
