Brands Hatch - 13th & 14th June

The single qualifying for both races went well for Ian, securing pole position for both of the afternoon's races with a comfortable 0.5 second margin for both races despite being the only front runner not on new tyres.

Ian made a good start in race one and comfortably made it into the first corner in the lead, ending the first lap almost] 1 second clear of the chasing pack. By half distance, Ian had a comfortable 8 second lead but on lap 14 the suspension collapsed on Ian's Van Diemen at the fastest point of the circuit - fortunately Ian kept the car under control and retired to the pits. "I'm absolutely gutted" commented Ian, "it was in the bag with a nice safe margin. I guess these things happen, we'll just have to try and make up for it in race 2."

Race 2 was almost a carbon copy of the first race with Ian leading into the first corner and finishing the lap with a 1 second lead. Once again, by half distance, Ian was 9 seconds clear of his opposition. Unfortunately though, Ian was starting to struggle with handling issues and chose to nurse the car home to the finish to prevent a repeat of race 1.

Despite Ian's problems, which turned out to be extra damage caused by the failure in race 1, he still won by a very comfortable 14 second margin. Ian commented "That went some way to making up for earlier on but the car felt dreadful towards the end, I was just waiting for it to break again - fortunately, she held together."
