Ian suffers problems at Pembrey...
The URS Classic FF2000 Championship moved west of the border and into Wales for rounds 9 and 10 and was greeted by some very turbulent weather. Qualifying on the Saturday went well for Ian and netted him his sixth pole position of the season by a comfortable 0.481 seconds.
Ian made a good getaway and led into Pembrey's tight first corner, ending the first lap with a massive 2.7 second lead over the second place man, Alex Osborne. By half distance Ian was already clear by 8.7 seconds and was cruising to another victory when a loose wheel robbed him of the win with four laps to go.
Qualifying on Sunday was held in treacherous wet conditions, this seemed to suit Ian as he went on to claim pole position by a mere 0.2 seconds from Richard Wallington. The track appeared to be drying for the race but a last minute downpour confirmed that wet tyres would be the way to go.
Ian made a dreadful start and fell to third place going into the first corner. The leading trio broke away from the rest of the pack and Ian was soon putting pressure on the second place man Richard Wallington, it was a hard battle for several laps but Ian eventually got past on lap 8.
Ian quickly closed up to the leader, Alex Osborne, and made his move on lap 11, sliding past into the hairpin at the back of the circuit. Ian would never be threatened again and finished the race with a 5.5 second lead. Despite a difficult weekend, Ian has closed the Championship lead to just 1 point with 2 rounds remaining.
