Ian closes in on Championship leader
Thruxton - 28th June
The URS FF2000 championship was greeted by glorious sunshine upon its arrival at Thruxton, Britain's fastest circuit, for the 6th round of the championship. Ian was satisfied with his qualifying session but for the first time this season, he found himself out qualified and lining up in 2nd place - 0.4 seconds off pole position. Ian commented "I was pretty happy with the car but I suspect we are running too much wing - I'm also struggling with traction."
Ian made a poor get away and slipped to 3rd position into the first corner. At the end of the lap, Ian made his move and took 2nd place from Richard Wallington and set off after the leader - Felix Fisher.
Ian quickly closed the gap to 0.3 seconds but Fisher resisted Ian's best attempts to get past for several laps until Ian was eventually slowed by a back marker. This allowed Fisher to get a more comfortable lead and Ian was now having to resist pressure from Wallington in 3rd. In the closing stages, Ian managed to pull out a small gap and finish the race in 2nd position. Ian commented "It was a good race but a little frustrating where I was struggling for grip and speed - but fair play to Felix, he did an excellent job!"
