Ian maintains championship lead
Croft: 17th-18th May
The URS classic FF2000 championship moved to the Croft circuit for rounds 2 and 3 of the 2010 season where Ian would suffer his usual mixed luck at the Teeside venue.
Ian's weekend got off to a bad start with a gearbox problem in qualifying, meaning that Ian would have to set his fastest time stuck in top gear - this meant Ian would line up for the first race of the weekend in 14th position with a lot of work to do.
With the gear selection issues fixed for the race, Ian made an excellent start and passed several cars on the run to the first corner. Ian ended the first lap in an encouraging 6th position. Unfortunately, Ian's progress was short lived after a collision with a rival, damaging the front nose and wings of his car. The resulting damage meant Ian could not make up any further positions on track and would finish the race in 5th position - not bad considering where he started and the damage to the car.
Ian was keen to make amends in the second race of the weekend on the Sunday and blitzed the qualifying session scoring his second pole position of the year by a margin of 1.1 seconds. Ian commented "The car felt absolutely great and after yesterday, I really needed to get some confidence back".
Ian made another excellent start and was clearly into the lead by the first corner, second place starter Andy Huxtable gave chase for several laps but by the end of lap 3, Ian had a safe 2 second advantage. Ian would never be troubled again and finished the race with a comfortable 10 second margin over Huxtable.
Ian now moves to the next round at Cadwell Park, a circuit he has never driven on before, with a five point lead in the championship.
